If You Look Good…

I hate to say I heard this from Deion Sanders, the cocky former NFL and MLB athlete who is the most recent celebrity to get his own reality TV show, but I did. And it made sense.
“If you look good, you feel good.
If you feel good, you play good.
If you play good, they pay good.
If they pay good, you live good.”
You don’t have to have a closet the size of a football field (like Deion), but it makes sense to have at least one or two suits or outfits that make you feel like a million dollars.
I remember when I started in network marketing, I splurged on a $1500 suit that I got at an outlet for $395. It was a low-end Armani, but it was the most expensive thing I had ever had on my body. And I looked good!
Showing up at events looking good, made me feel good, which made me “play” good. And in network marketing, if you play good, they pay good. And if they pay good, you live good. It worked for me.
In the beginning I only had one suit and I showed up with the same suit at every event. I got razzed by some of the other affiliates but the guests had no idea. To them, I looked and acted with supreme confidence. That’s all that mattered to me.
You don’t need to be rich to look like a million dollars. I’m not the best dressed guy in the world, but I’ve learned that you can look better and it changes how people perceive you. Here’s how you can look (and feel!) good even if you’re on a budget.
1. Personal Hygene — take the time to trim your nails, wash your face, pluck those hairs and put on deodorant. It’s a daily routine that will make you a superstar.
2. Shop at Outlets… on Tuesdays — an outlet employee once told me that the new stuff comes in on Tuesdays and it’s the best time to find the best stuff before it’s taken off the shelf.
3. Get One Great thing vs. Many Mediocre Things — it will cost you the same but quality definitely out-performs quantity when it comes to fashion… and your confidence.
4. Take Care of Your Clothes — wash and dry clothes inside out and don’t stuff them in the seat in front of you on an airplane. You get the idea.
Even if you’re on a strict budget (aren’t we all?) you can look good. Take a little bit of time and this will be a year where your confidence and income goes to another level.
